I’m Justin – City Council President, Candidate, and Neighbor
I’m a lifelong Kansan, born and raised in the small, rural town of Grenola in Elk County. I’m the son of career teacher and lifelong mechanic, the grandson of farmers, ranchers, teachers, and construction company owner/operators. Six generations of my family called Kansas home. My childhood was both rural and eccentric, learning to operate heavy equipment before a simple pickup or car. My rural upbringing certainly had its benefits and led to me being the hardworking and self-sufficient person that I am today.
By day, I am a computer network engineer. I have worked in Information Technology for over 3 decades, working in the education, telecommunications, medical, and financial sectors. As a kid helping my grandparents on the farm, I could have never imagined that I would have had a career that would take me around the world and back again.
By night, I’m an active volunteer in my community, for organizations in the greater Wichita area, and beyond. I can often be found smoking meat for fundraisers or my city senior center, volunteering for regional community events, or driving the senior center van to quarterly lunch outings.
I was elected to the Clearwater City Council in 2019 and became Council President in 2022. I was re-elected in 2023 and am once again Council President. I was also elected by the residents of Sedgwick County in 2023 to serve on the Sedgwick County Extension office Program Development Committee for Family and Consumer Sciences. There I was elected to serve on the Extension Council as well as the Foundation Board overseeing all Extension Office committees from 4-H to Agriculture, Aging and Medicare to Community Vitality.
Why?
I chose to run for public office in 2019 out of a sense of public service. Multiple generations of teachers in my family have committed their lives to serving the public good through teaching. Public service means dedicating oneself to serving the community and the common good. It encompasses a wide range of activities, from working in government and non-profit organizations to volunteering and helping neighbors. Public service is about prioritizing the needs of others. This is my public service.
Can I count on you?
